Gin Fizz by Lubin c1947

Gin Fizz by Lubin: launched in 1947 and created by Henri Giboulet. It was available in parfum, eau de toilette and eau de cologne. In 1964, a Lubin's Gin Fizz Cooler Cologne was released.

From Lubin:
"In 1955, a star captivated the crowds: appearing in films by Alfred Hitchcock or John Ford, playing alongside James Stewart and Cary Grant, she embodied the very elegance of America. Her mysterious charm even captured the heart of a Prince! It was in honour of her extraordinary beauty that Henri Giboulet created a perfume for Lubin which marked the decade; a very chic perfume, sparkling and fresh, evoking the cocktail in fashion that year in the ‘American bars’ of Paris, Gin Fizz."

Original Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a dry citrus, peppery, green floral fragrance.
  • Top notes: lavender, basil leaves, Guinea orange, sage, citron, neroli, verbena, aldehyde, Calabrian bergamot, Italian lemon peel, mandarin, juniper berry, apple

Harper's Bazaar - Volume 87, 1953:
"Lubin's "Gin Fizz," a toilet water with a dash of lemon, made in France. A pleasant tang after shaving, or, for that matter, anytime."

Combat, 1955:
"Gin Fizz (parfum de toilette by Lubin) - both a fresh perfume and an invigorating eau de toilette, it is the aerosol that vaporizes this sharp scent. A powerful aldehyde is the wind that drives the paroxysmal breath of the garden of the Hesperides, whose golden apples ripen among daffodils, narcissus, wallflowers and white laurels with flowers made of sweet feminine flesh."

The New Yorker, 1957:
"In the same category are Lanvin's sharp Spanish Geranium toilet water ($5.50 for four ounces, $9.35 for eight) and soap ($3.85 for three chunky cakes). Then, Jay Thorpe and others have brought back an old favorite by Lubin called Gin Fizz."
Newsweek, 1964:
"The discriminating executive is confronted by a staggering bouquet: Brandy Harvest offers "Social Register," a cologne it describes as "fruity"; Lubin is serving up "Gin Fizz"; and Lanvin has forked up "Figaro," a "new-mown-hay type."

Fragrance Composition:

The fragrance was discontinued, date unknown. It was still being sold in 1973.

In 2009, the fragrance was reformulated by Thomas Fontaine and relaunched, excluding the oakmoss due to IFRA regulations.
